Inmates with HIV deserve better food’
Saturday, 19th November, 2005

A prison health official has asked the Government and the donor community to boost the diet of prisoners living with HIV/AIDS, reports Flavia Nakagwa(New Vision News Paper). The acting director of the prisons health service, Dr. Alex Kakoraki, on Monday said there was need to lift the nutritional status for such people in order to improve their health. Kakoraki said this at a four-day training of trainees workshop dubbed the ‘Good Samaritan’ volunteer training. It was organised by Wells of Hope Ministries and the Bible Society of Uganda at Namirembe Resource Centre, Kampala. Kakoraki appealed to the Government to increase the prison budget, saying they were underfunded in feeding, transport and accommodation. Kakoraki said homosexuality was high in prison and yet condoms cannot be supplied to inmates. “Homosexuality is an unacceptable in our communities and shouldn’t be practiced,” he said.
