The meeting was commenced with a Devotion which was led by one of the Participants.
The Participants said that they were very glad for having attended the F.A.C.E Workshop because from it, they gained courage to teach others about what they learned. During this meeting women shared several problems that they face, one of them being lack of adequate access to prison, they want to have direct contact visits especially for their children. They also talked about how poverty has affected them; sometimes getting meals is a problem, they are ostracized, called names , sexually manipulated/abused, some of them acquired HIV. The women agreed to work together through Wells of Hope FACE programme to support each other to better themselves, help their children and also help other women who have husbands or sons in prison. They showed a lot of zeal, vigor and were positive about improving their lives and the situation on their children.
During the meeting, they elected three leaders among themselves that is, the Chairperson, Vice Chairperson and Secretary who will be mobilizing other Spouses of Prisoners and also carry out activities like sustainability projects to include African jewelry making, Bags, Soap making, Mushroom growing, Tailoring, Poultry, making cosmetics, sweaters and to mention but, a few. In the next meeting, they hope to discuss more and get started .
They were refreshed with sodas and snacks and were also given clothes; it was a great time as they got gifts of clothes which were donated to Wells of Hope earlier. They were delighted and thanked Wells of Hope and all our Supporters. One of the women said that, they have been hidden and no one ever thought about them, but Wells of Hope is the first to recognize wives of prisoners .
