The objectives of the session were: the youth to become more aware of the dangers of drug and alcohol and abuse and to consider how these can affect their health, goals and decisions; and he youth not to focus on the negative peer influences and build life skills to overcome peer pressure.
The session involved four activities. The first activity was a case study involving two friends Okello and Sali, Sali was misled by a friend called Mulindwa to involve in drug and alcohol abuse, as a result, his dream of becoming an engineer was shattered. This was a lesson to the Young people that usage of drugs and alcohol can put Youth in situations of great risk to their life and health. The second activity was about Media Review exercise where Julie looked at Pictures in the news papers, of celebrities Eddy Kenzo emphasizing that these celebrities are not good examples by what they were wearing and they looked like they were on drugs. Activity 3 was about Garbage in Garbage out where she mentioned that this activity backs up the preceding one by emphasizing the fact that Youth need to control what information they expose their minds to as it could easily influence their decisions. She told the children that what they take in is what comes out in terms of behavior.
Julie advised the children to be careful with what they watch and listen to and make good friends to avoid making bad decisions that will affect their dreams. The children learnt not to listen to peer pressure and to keep good friends that will help them to reach their goals and dreams.
