We conducted a two-day workshop from 27th to 28th of March 2015 at the WOH Head Office premises; the focus of the training was to equip mothers and grandmothers of children with a parent in prison with skills on how to make liquid soap, shampoo, business skills and how to grow mushrooms.
The main facilitators during the training were Mr.Musana Augustine (a consultant), Mr.Kimbowa Ibrahim and Mrs. Rose Mukisa (from Kawanda, one of the prominent Agricultural Research Farms in Uganda).
The training was participatory and the participants were asked about their expectations and what guidelines to they were to follow during the training. The F.A.C.E concept was explained to the participants by Marjorie the Acting Executive Director; and she also highlighted its objectives.
Mr. Musana Augustine gave an inspirational talk about financial self-reliance. He encouraged the participants to start income generating projects in order to cater for their children and grandchildren.
All in all, it was a successful training: 26 mothers and grandmothers of children with a parent in prison made it on both days; we were graced to have three people from the media and these were; Petride Mudoola from The New Vision, Nakanwagi Rachel from Top Television and Faishar Sseruwagi from Star FM/ UBC (Uganda Broadcasting Corporation) Radio.
We thank you all, our friends and partners for your caring support for families of prisoners.
