We are glad to report that on Tuesday the 19th of August 2014, Dr. Elsie, Marjorie and two volunteers from Mulago Hospital went to the Academy to carry out Dental Treatment which entailed teeth extraction and filling. Thirteen children had their teeth extracted, nineteen had their teeth filled and sixteen were referred to Mulago for further medical treatment. Some of the children’s teeth needed cleaning and polishing which was done while others needed X-Rays to look for tooth decay and gum diseases.
During the sessions, the teachers were helpful in encouraging the children who were tensed up by the dental procedure and carried them to one of the offices we were using. Each child that received the service got a tooth brush and toothpaste (Colgate).
Further more, the children were educated on how to use a toothbrush while brushing and how to floss more effectively. Three charts were then handed over to Teacher Sharon showing the process of keeping teeth clean that can act as a future reference during science classes.
Dr. Elsie is working towards seeking appointments at Mulago Dental clinic for the children whose teeth where not worked upon.
