Lawrence, whose father is on death row in Luzira Prisons, is 7 years old although he looks a five year old and he is one of the children at Wells of Hope Academy. Before he came to the academy, he was under the care of his grandfather (74 years) who is very sick and weak. So it was his sister Angela (11 years of age) who used to prepare their meals. His other siblings are: Deborah (9 years of age) and Regan (10 years of age). Their grandfather said that before these children came to Wells of Hope, he would simply look at them. He could not afford to take them to hospital. With the support of Wells of Hope, Lawrence underwent an eye operation on 18th June 2014. It is said that he was born with a drooping eyelid problem, but the mother who abandoned him could not afford to take him to hospital. Lawrence was admitted in hospital on the 16th June 2014.
While in the hospital, he was taken care of by some WOH Staff and his uncle whom we facilitated to come. Lawrence underwent a successful operation on his left eye and he is now able to see through it. Initially the eye was not seeing, but miraculously a week after the operation the eye could see. Before he was discharged from hospital, the grandfather whom we facilitated visited him in hospital. He traveled from Mayuge to Kampala and Gina and Steve drove him back. During his visit to Kampala, Lawrence’s grandfather was also able to go to prison and visit his sons on death row. The last time he had seen them was a year ago and for only 15 minutes, but in the company of Wells of Hope, he was able to sit and talk with his sons for two hours. We are truly thankful to God and for all your support.
