On Wednesday the 26th of August 2015, twenty four teenagers merged at the head office from where they proceeded to the Academy accompanied by WOH volunteers; the children were excited about attending the camp.
On the 27th of August 2015, the children conducted Devotion which was wonderfully led by the children.
The facilitators included: Immaculate Birungi, Johnnie Nsubuga, Nyana and Peter Kakoma, from Mavuno Church Cloud 9 Cell Group; Geofrey Nsubuga and Molly Namirembe from SOMERO Uganda; Robert Ssebunya and Thomas Adyang from MercyLink Foundation Uganda.
Immaculate, Peter, Nyana and Johnie encouraged the teens to have role models in life as a way of living a purposeful life and above all, having God as their guide. They also had an interactive session where the children shared what they would like to be/ do in future; Vivian one of the students said, “I want to do medicine and surgery to be able to treat the deadly diseases that are still killing many people.”
The highlight of the day was a session where the children filled in “TRUE LOVE WAITS” cards as a way of showing their commitment to remain pure till marriage.
Mr.Kalunda facilitated about HIV & AIDS; its symptoms, how it can be acquired and ways to prevent it. He later conducted Voluntary Counseling and Testing (VCT) with the children.
Juliet facilitated on hygiene to the children; she enlightened the children about the changes at puberty and how to cope with them.
Mrs. Susan Thompson was accompanied by a friend, Raelene Wearne; Susan told the teenagers that they are special, they should believe it and it should be manifested in their lives; referenced her session with scriptures like Deuteronomy 4:24 and Proverbs 23:11. Raelene interacted with the younger children and encouraged them by telling them that they are special in every way.
We thank all our friends and partners for their selfless support for making the camp colourful.
