Children attending Secondary Schools in partner schools joined the Children from Wells of Hope Academy. They all converged at the WOH office premises before heading to the different prisons.
The study week participants toook photographs with the children and some WOH Staff, and one of the children led us through a prayer before setting off. The children visited three prisons that is Luzira Women Prison ,Luzira Upper Prison and Nakasongola Prison .
Nakasongola Prison Visit
Accompanied by two Staff members of WOH, the children visiting their parents in Nakasongola Prison set off first at around 10:30am and arrived about four hours later. On arrival, they were checked in by prison officers who later arranged for them where to sit while interacting with their parents in prison. The parents were very happy to see their children and could not help expressing their love for them through tears of joy. The mothers tried their best and were able to deliver some eatables and drinks like juice to their children. The main highlight of the visit was a mother who prepared chapattis in the shortest time possible and gave them to the children as soon as she found out that her children come to visit her. “Eat whatever you want,” she lamented. Mothers also gave gifts like bags to their children.
On their way out, the inmates joined hands with the children and the WOH Staff and thanked God. They also prayed for themselves, the WOH ministry and the founders and also for journey mercies for the children and Staff on their way back to school.
The inmates sent regards to the entire Staff involved in the WOH ministry and promised to continue praying for Wells of Hope.
Luzira Prison Visit
The International Study Week Participants, accompanied WOH Staff to take children to visit their parents in Prison on the 26th of June 2014.
On arrival at the prison, they were all checked in by the prison wardens and were later led to the waiting room. The children’s parents were then ushered into the room by the prison officers. They identified with their children and there was exchange of greetings and gifts.
The room was filled with excitement and joy. The conversation between the parents and children about home and school experiences ended up in tears of joy from the parents and the children.
The parents went through the books, examination papers of their children and even helped them to do corrections. The teachers talked to the parents about their children’s academic progress ,this gave guidance to the parents on how to talk to the children .
The children later sat down with their parents and shared food and drinks. The main highlight was the way the parents expressed love towards their children: the food that the parents made for their children was good..
The inmates said that they ask God to reward Mr.Ssuubi Francis (the Wells of Hope Director) and they highly appreciated the WOH ministry at large. From these visits, we are able to fulfill our commitment and partnership with the prisons .
The children were very happy to visit their parents and it is always such visits that strengthen their relationship with their parents.
