Prisoners had special meals during the training, breakfast and a sumptuous lunch. This is a rare meal in the prison, they also had two sodas each and a bottle of mineral water, two inmates told us that the last time they had such a meal was two years ago when we did a Christmas party in prison. One inmate said that the last we took them a lot of food, they ate to their fill, and slept well, and that is when he learnt that when a human being has a good meal then he will have a sound sleep, and that was the only time they have ever had a sound sleep.
One of the facilitators( a doctor in the prison) decried the high levels of homosexuality,he told the inmates to desist from those activities because they put them at high risk of HIV. The Prisons HIV prevalence is 11% compared to the national 7.3% .
Another threat in the prisons is Tuberculosis. Congestion and poor nutrition are also a problem that increases risks leading to even death.
Francis, Marjorie and Simon Peter from The Bible Society of Uganda were there to facilitate.
