. The impact of imprisonment on children differs per age, for example 0-3 years have a Low degree of attachment to incarcerated parent and loss of bond and have Separation anxiety.

. Prisoners are predominantly from poverty stricken communities

On the 1st of December 2011,we held Christmas carols and a Christmas party for the children of prisoners we care for, they had lots of games, we sang and they children acted out the Christmas story. We also shared a special meal with them (rice, Mattoke, Irish and beef) and each child drank a soda.

since 2005 we have been doing Christmas parties for children of prisoners, but For the first time we did not have a Christmas gift for each child as it has always been, but we promised that incase God gives us the gift after the party they will get them later. This year we did not get many contributions for Christmas outreach like in the past years, so we had to strain a lot, we still thank God for everything.

Beatrice Nazziwa , a grandmother of two of the children at Wells of Hope Academy died on Tuesday this week, but her dead body was discovered this morning in a mortuary. She used to reside in slum called Nateete, a suburb of Kampala and her house used to flood a lot.
She is the grandmother of Andrew 11 years and Edmund 9 years(Edmund is +HIV) ,whose father called Sunday has been in Luzira prison since 2005,and is the Son of Beatrice. These children lost their mother immediately after their father had been jailed, and it is the grandmother who has been taking care, with the support of Wells of Hope. After every two months, she would take Edmund to Mildmay for ARVS and Septrin. She was knocked down by an unknown car in the wee hours of Tuesday, she was going to sweep Nakawa roads in Kampala, she was a casual laborer of the city Council. She used to wake up at 5am and travel to go and work. That is how she was earning a living to look after herself , her son in Prison who is also +HIV and also support the Grandchildren. She has another son who is mentally sick whom she has also been looking after.
